Psalm 113:7   He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap.

Introducing the Ash Dragon…finally, a safe, efficient and dustless method of removing ash and coals, whether hot or cold, from your fireplace or wood stove.  Enjoy a dust free burning season.  Ready for immediate shipment, order today and breath easier the next time you clean out your stove.  The Ash Dragon  is made in the U.S. with U.S. Steel, by U.S. citizens.  The low-profile design of the Ash Dragon allows you to easily reach inside your stove.  It measures 12"L x 7"W x 4"H giving it a large 280 cubic inch capacity.  With it's mouth open, it measures less than
6" high and the lid overhangs the leading edge of the scoop by only 1/2".  This allows you to scoop ash almost all the way to the back of the stove without interference.  The black powder coat is attractive and durable.
I designed these with my wood insert in mind, but it also works well for open fireplaces, wood stoves with ash pans and the smaller side loading wood stoves.  If you currently clean your fireplace or stove with a shovel and ash pail, and are looking for a better way, this is it!

Last year, considering the overwhelming popularity of the Ash Dragon Dustless Ash Scoop, I introduced the companion
Ash Dragon Ember Sifter.  With the sifter you can easily "Sift and Separate" the larger hot coals from the fine ash before cleaning out your wood stove with the Ash Dragon Scoop.  This leaves the finer ash on one side of the stove and the larger live coals on the opposite side to easily restart the fire.  Check the store page for special pricing when you purchase the scoop and sifter together.

It has been said that wood heats you four times, once when you cut it, once when you split it, once when you stack it and finally when you burn it. The ambiance of a wood burning fire has enchanted man with its glow and warmth since its discovery.  There are many reasons why people like to burn wood.  We like it for it’s aesthetic appeal, that wonderful smell and it’s charming warmth.  It is generally cheaper than paying for gas, oil, or propane.  The process of burning wood is a healthy wintertime activity.

Whatever your reasons are for burning wood, we all know the end result is the inevitable dusty mess every time you scoop the ashes out of your stove.  If you ever empty your ashes on a sunny day, look at the sunbeam and you’ll know what I’m talking about.  Dust is everywhere.  Not only is it on the mantle where the kids can write “clean me” with their finger, but worse, it is in the carpet, the furniture, the drapes, the pets, our lungs and everywhere else in the house.  Whether you have just a few fires during the holidays, or you burn continuously from October through April, you will be faced with the same inevitable cloud of flying ash that lands on everything in your home.

Faced with this daily dust cloud, I began to look for a better way to empty hot ashes without the dusty mess.  It seemed no matter what I tried, the results were the same. I used my nasty old ash shovel and bucket, and no matter how carefully I scoop the hot ashes, dust flies everywhere.  I borrowed a friend’s ash vacuum in anticipation of possibly buying one.  He already told me it didn’t work well and I used it only once with dismal results. That is $250 I’m glad I didn’t spend.  I looked in every fireplace store within a hundred miles hoping to find the perfect ash scoop, only to find the same old ash shovel and bucket that I already had.  I knew what I was looking for, but I couldn’t find anything that would suit my needs.  One day as I was carrying a pail full of hot ashes outside from the stove, my wife said, “I wish you would quit draggin’ ashes all through the house!”  That was the day I decided to create the Ash Dragon.  I can now remove hot ashes safely, cleanly and efficiently!  Finally, I’m happy, and more importantly, Mama’s happy.

Using this handsome and clever little device will virtually eliminate the dust problem caused by emptying your fireplace or wood stove.  I usually have only one fire per year, but it lasts from October through April, and I need to remove hot ashes almost every day. Usually first thing in the morning, I take a scoop of ash out of my stove with the Ash Dragon and that reduces the volume of ash enough for another day’s burning. I simply put on my fire gloves, open the Ash Dragon’smouth and scoop into the hot bed of coals, I then tip it back and shake the coals rearward until the lid closes tightly and immediately empty it into the ash container outside. Yes, that’s the same old ash bucket that used to distribute ash dust all over the house.  I always leave enough hot coals to easily restart the fire. I stir the coals, add a few chunks of wood and by the time the coffee is done brewing, the fire is roaring and I can sit and enjoy both.
